China Unveils Notice on Further Accelerating the Construction of Intelligent Coal Mines to Promote High-quality Development of Coal Industry

In May 2024, the National Energy Administration issued the Notice on Further Accelerating the Construction of Intelligent Coal Mines to Promote High-quality Development of Coal Industry (the “Notice”). The Notice aims to comprehensively promote the intelligent development of coal mine construction and accelerating the intelligent transformation of coal mines’ production.
According to the Notice, new coal mines are expected to be designed and constructed in accordance with intelligent standards. By 2025, large coal mines will basically become intelligent, and those with a production capacity of more than 3 million tons per year are encouraged to take the lead in building fully intelligent coal mines.
To facilitate this “intelligentization” of coal mines, the Notice also puts forward a series of targeted safeguard measures. Those measures include accelerating the development and application of key technology equipment, speeding up the formulation of relevant standards, and enhancing policy support. With the implementation of the Notice, China is expected to further accelerate the transformation and upgrading of the coal exploration, realizing the high-quality development of coal industry.
